We believe doing the right thing shouldn't be the harder option.
Most people aren't avoiding composting because they don't care.
They're busy.
Between work, kids, sports, errands, and everything else life throws at us, building and maintaining a compost pile just isn't realistic for most households. Even if you've wanted to compost for years, it's easy for it to stay on the "maybe someday" list.
That's why Peake exists.
We make composting as easy as taking out the trash. You fill the bucket, we take care of everything else—from collection to turning those food scraps into compost right here in Southern Maryland.
No mess. No guessing. No extra work.
Just one small habit that adds up to something much bigger.
-
We care about the little things because they add up.
We're a small business, and we plan to stay true to what got us started.
Keep it simple
If something feels complicated, we've probably made it too hard. Composting should fit naturally into your routine.Show up when we say we will
Reliable service matters. So do clean buckets, quick communication, and doing what we said we'd do.Keep it local
The food scraps collected from our neighbors stay here. They become compost that supports gardens, farms, landscaping projects, and green spaces throughout Southern Maryland.Leave things a little better than we found them.
At the end of the day, that's really what this is all about. We're not claiming we can solve every environmental challenge. We're simply trying to do our part. If we can keep good material out of landfills, return nutrients to the soil, and make it easier for our neighbors to do the same, we've made a difference.
If enough communities choose to do that, those small efforts become something much bigger.
That's the kind of future we're working toward.
-
It started with something we couldn't stop noticing.
Before Peake Compost, we owned a junk removal business.
Day after day, we hauled away truckloads of furniture, old appliances, construction debris... and an unbelievable amount of food.
Not spoiled food.
Not food that had gone bad.
Just banana peels, coffee grounds, vegetable scraps, eggshells, leftovers, and yard waste—all mixed into the trash and headed to the landfill.
The more we saw it, the harder it became to ignore.
We realized most people weren't throwing these things away because they wanted to. They were doing it because they didn't have another option that was actually convenient.
That question stuck with us:
What if composting was just... easy?
So we built the service we wished existed.
Today, Peake Compost is still family-owned and woman-owned, and every bucket we collect is a reminder that small changes really do matter. One household won't change the world overnight. But thousands of households making one simple change every week?
That's how communities change.
And we're excited that you're considering being part of it.
-
Because someday, this won't be our world anymore.
Like so many good ideas, this one became personal.
As parents of two young boys, we think a lot about the kind of world they'll grow up in. Not just the big things, but the everyday things. The habits they learn. The communities they live in. The way they think about the resources around them.
We don't expect one compost bucket to change the world.
But we do believe thousands of people making one small change every week can change the future of a community.
The truth is, we may never see the full impact of what we're building in our lifetime.
But our children will.
And if we can help leave them healthier soil, cleaner communities, and a little more appreciation for the world around them, then the early mornings, long pick-up routes, late nights maintaining the compost piles, and every bucket collected will have been worth it.
The compost we make today will improve soil for years to come. The families who start composting today may inspire their neighbors tomorrow. The small choices we make now have a way of growing into something much bigger than ourselves.

We're just getting started.
Our dream has never been to build the biggest compost company. It’s much simpler than that.
We want composting to become as normal as putting your recycling at the curb. We want children to grow up knowing food scraps aren't "trash." We want local gardens to thrive because of nutrients that stayed right here instead of ending up in a landfill.
We hope to continue expanding throughout Southern Maryland, partner with more schools and businesses, support local farms and community gardens, and create opportunities for more people to be part of something meaningful.
Every new member helps move us one step closer.
Not because they're joining a service.
Because they're joining a community that's choosing to waste a little less and give a little more back.
